#ICYMI: Northview High School principal killed in cash-in-transit heist

BALFOUR PARK – The Northview High School principal, Chris Mathebula has been identified as the victim who died in a cash-in-transit robbery on 1 June.

The teachers and children of Northview High School are reeling after it was revealed that their principal was killed.

Chris Mathebula was the victim who was killed in the recent cash-in-transit robbery that took place in Olifantsfontein on 1 June.

He was shot by the perpetrators during the robbery that took place along the R21 highway. The armed suspects were in six cars and drove a Fidelity Security cash vehicle off the road.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said that Mathebula unknowingly drove into the scene. Mulamu added that the Hawks’ cash-in-transit heist investigation is ongoing and the perpetrators are still at large.

They escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.

Mathebula was killed when the suspects randomly shot at passing vehicles.

The Minister of Police, Bheki Cele visited Mathebula’s family at their home in Clayville West on 4 June.

Captain Mulami added, “We deeply sympathise with the deceased’s family and friends, not forgetting his colleagues and the learners for their loss.”
Ward 74 councillor and alumnus, David Fisher said, “As the ward councillor, I can just say that I am shocked that lives are lost due to criminality. I send my condolences to his family.

“As a former student at Northview High School, I also send my condolences to the educators and students of the school.”
