Police hunt for ex-soldier for questioning regarding murder of his wife

MIDRAND – The man kept the children hostage, after the ordeal, for seven hours.

A former soldier from Ebony Park is on the run after he allegedly shot and killed his wife in front of three children.

The 41-year-old allegedly shot his wife at their home in Ebony Park on the morning of 27 May. According to the police, the man kept the children hostage after the ordeal for seven hours before the wife’s brother came to the house in the early evening of that fateful day.

“The brother-in-law came to fetch his child, who was visiting. When he got to the house, the gun-toting suspect told him not to enter the yard. He fled the scene and called the police,” said a spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane, who revealed that the couple was reportedly going through a divorce.

“It is suspected that the shooting may have something to do with the state of affairs in their marriage. He managed to flee the scene on foot and has not been seen since then. He is heavily armed, and he should not be confronted. Anyone who sees him should please call the police.”
