Summerhill opens a forest classroom

MIDRAND – Summerhill Preparatory School celebrated international Outdoor Classroom Day with the opening of their forest classroom.

Summerhill Preparatory held the official opening of their forest classroom on 17 May as they celebrated international Outdoor Classroom Day.

The aim of this global campaign is to get children to play and learn outdoors both at their school and in their everyday lives.

The forest classroom at Summerhill Preparatory is made up of stumps placed in a circle to accommodate all the children in the classroom for at least one lesson per day.

The school’s Teressa Oates and Daniela Hoogervorst said they hope the forest classroom will assist in better educating the youngsters about nature and their environment.
