Little Zoe’s final leg in Miss SA Schools ambassador contest

MIDRAND – Zoe played violin to raise funds and used the money to donate to various local organisations.

In her final week of the competition, Miss Halfway House Primary School ambassador looks back on her journey with a sense of pride.

Zoe Moata, a Grade 4 learner who was crowned Miss Halfway House Primary School ambassador last year, is walking her last mile in the competition with hopes of scooping the Miss South Africa Schools Ambassador title on 26 May.

Her mother, Yvonne, said the journey has been an eye-opener for both her and little Zoe. “It has transformed us especially when it comes to giving. It has taught us to share the little that we have with others. It has also increased our level of compassion and love towards others. We hope to live by these values that we have learnt,” she said.

In her quest to make a difference, Zoe played the violin to raise funds and used the money to donate to various local organisations such as the SPCA, as well as old age homes and orphanages.

To market her school, she placed her school’s banner at the Mall of Africa. “She explained to people where her school was, its values and what makes it stand out from the rest,” said her mother.

She also went to New Life Centre for Girls in President Park on 26 April with her school to donate groceries and other goods. “She provides motivation to the learners from the centre and also played the violin for them. On the same day, she went to The Retirement Village Lodge where the elderly were entertained.”

Zoe also took part in the National Suzuki Concert at Wits University on 20 May.

Yvonne said she would like to thank the South-African Business Initiative for Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises for the R2 000 sponsorship to implement her projects.

“The funds have assisted Zoe to do her projects with ease. I am truly grateful for the sponsorship. It has added value in making her projects a success.”

Chairperson of the initiative, Paul Mookang said the organisation was excited to be part of Zoe’s journey and wishes her well in the competition. “It is our goal to support entrepreneurship and educational programmes in the area. It was a pleasure to assist little Zoe and we wish her all the best in the competition,” he said.
