Four men suspected of copper theft arrested

MIDRAND – Police arrested four men who were found digging for copper cables in President Park.

 

Four men were arrested by Midrand police while digging out copper cables on West Street, President Park in Midrand in the early hours of 18 May.

“The police were carrying out routine patrols when they spotted a man hiding in a hole near the road. The officers stopped near the hole to observe why the man was hiding there, but to their surprise they found three more men hiding in the same place,” said Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

“The suspects were caught red-handed digging out copper cables from a hole. They had three rolls of copper cables.”

When questioned by the police, the suspects allegedly said they were trying to make a living from the cables.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Midrand Magistrates Court soon to face charges of theft.
