R50 000 stolen from handbag in Carlswald

CARLSWALD – R50 000 in cash was stolen that was in a woman's handbag at a shopping centre in Carlswald.

 

A case of theft has been opened at the Midrand Police Station after R50 000 was stolen from a woman at a shopping centre in Carlswald on 8 May.

According to Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela, the complainant was dropped off at the shopping centre by a work colleague to deposit the R50 000 at First National Bank, when a man snatched her bag just a few metres away from the bank at about 11.15am.

Tlamela said the money was for the business that the complainant worked for.

She advised that people should not walk around with such large sums of money and they should instead make use of Internet transfers for safety purposes.

The suspect is still at large and police are investigating the matter.
