Man stabbed to death

PRESIDENT PARK – A man was stabbed to death following an argument over a box of matches.

A man was left for dead after being stabbed by a suspect in Kruger Road, President Park.

The spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela, said the suspect and the deceased were involved in an altercation regarding a box of matches when the fight ensued at about 11pm on 29 April. “Midrand police were called to the scene following a complaint of fighting.

“When the officer arrived at the scene the man was found in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds to his upper body.”

She added that the suspect was promptly arrested and detained in a Midrand cell before appearing in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 2 May. He was later transferred to the Johannesburg Prison to await trial.

“It is so sad that just a box of matches has claimed a life unnecessarily. We advise the public not to retaliate when someone tries to engage them in a fight in order to avoid such occurrences.”
