Purple Lounge gives the elderly an annual treat

MIDRAND – They have been running this initiative since 2014.

The Purple Lounge restaurant held its annual free luncheon for the Halfway House Senior Citizens Club on 19 April with a little gift on offer.

Owners of the restaurant Strinivasan and Malini Moodley kept their promise by serving free lunches to the elderly. They have been running this initiative since 2014. Going into its fourth year, this time around the elderly citizens did not only receive a delicious treat but also went home with blankets donated by Luella Naidoo from Fourways.

The guests were offered chicken biryani, vegetable biryani and dhall. For dessert, they had fruit salad and soji with cream and almonds.

Chairperson of the Halfway House Senior Citizens Club Jerry Monhunlall said they have enjoyed Moodley’s scrumptious free meals over the years. “The proprietor of the Purple Lounge has always been accommodating and willing to go the extra mile for the senior citizens. His service and food are excellent,” he said.

“I receive joy when I see the old citizens having a good time, chatting and joking with each other. Life is short. I will continue to do this for as long as possible,” said Strinivasan.

He further said the Purple Lounge would like to extend the gesture to Tembisa elderly people to come to the restaurant and enjoy the same treats.

“We want to thank Luella Naidoo who sponsored the blankets. This will go a long way in keeping the elderly warm this winter.”
