Rabie Ridge visible policing yields visible results

MIDRAND – Suspects arrested for possession of drugs were sentenced up to three months in prison.

Rabie Ridge police have intensified its measures to fight crime in the area over the past three months and have recorded a number of successes.

The station’s crime prevention unit, sector policing, reservists and community patrollers partnered with the Metro police to improve response time to crime incidents and increase police visibility. “Crimes that have been prevalent in the area are drinking and driving and illegal possession of drugs,” said the spokesperson for the Rabie Ridge Police Station, Captain Mofana Masela.

“We are also aware that drug abuse is one of the contributors to crimes such as burglaries, robberies, theft and hijacking.”

Masela said more than 30 motorists arrested for drinking and driving admitted guilt for the offences and paid fines. More than 35 suspects were arrested in possession of drugs such as nyaope, dagga and other types of drugs. “Detectives had to work around the clock to make sure that these arrests were made and the community of Rabie Ridge is safer.”

The Tembisa Magistrates’ Court found the suspects arrested for possession of drugs guilty and they were sentenced up to three months’ imprisonment.

“This serves as a deterrent to criminals and a motivation to police officers to work harder and make the community safer.”

Station commander Colonel Johana Ngoma congratulated all police units and community members involved in the apprehension of the suspects. “Keep up the good work to safeguard our communities,” she said.

“I would like to also appreciate the time and sacrifices made by our community policing forum to assist in fighting crime in the area.”
