Midrand SPCA calls on the community for a helping hand

MIDRAND – Midrand SPCA asks the community for help regarding the necessary equipment.

Midrand SPCA is pleading to the community for help regarding the necessary equipment they are in need of in order to be able to assist more animals in a short period of time.

On 27 March at 12.15am in the morning, Inspector Theo Mokgatle received a call from the Rabie Ridge police informing him that a member of the public reported that a box with six dogs had been dumped an abandoned in the Austin View area.

“Inspector Mokgatle met with the police at the station so they could escort him to where the dogs were dumped. Four police officers escorted our inspector to the area, but unfortunately, only one dog could be caught that morning,” said Brenda Lucas from the Midrand SPCA.

“Mokgatle has been trying daily ever since to catch the dogs, feeding them and giving them water to slowly gain their trust. On 6 April, our general manager, Pam Pretorius joined Inspector Mokgatle in another effort to catch the remaining dogs.

“She patiently sat with food in her hand and one by one they managed to catch the dogs. Some of the dogs crawled underneath a fence so Pretorius braved the fence and had to crawl underneath it until we had five of the six dogs safely in our care after 10 days of trying.”

One of the dogs went missing from the site and it is uncertain if someone picked the dog up, whether it ran away or whether it got injured. Lucas said if the facility had the right equipment available, this dog may have been safely in the care of the SPCA.

“It is vitally important that the inspectors are fully equipped for any emergency situations in order to assist the animals as soon as possible.”

Below is a list of items the Midrand SPCA needs:

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could assist with any of these items or a donation towards the purchase of the required equipment through the Backabuddy fund or Snapscan.
