A local non-profit organisation called The South African Initiative for small, micro and medium enterprises heeded to the call for sponsorship for Miss Halfway House Primary School Ambassador.
On 30 March the Midrand Reporter published a story on Zoe Moata, a Grade 4 learner who was crowned Miss Halfway House Primary Ambassador last year. Zoe needed assistance to become the next Miss South Africa Schools Ambassador on 25 and 26 May with a sponsorship of R2 000.
The competition hopes to inspire all finalists to get involved in their communities by developing their own project at their schools including charity work, food tables and birthday parties for underprivileged children.
Chairperson of the initiative, Paul Mookang said although their primary objective is to convert job seekers into entrepreneurs, they have integrated government plans like the National Development Plan vision for 2013 and many more.
“Chapter 9 of the NDP vision 2030 deals with improving education, training and innovation, the cluster on social protection, community and human development in one of the elements and basic education. It is as a result of the two initiative coordinates that we felt a need to assist in organising assistance for little Zoe,” said Mookang and added that they would not only assist Zoe with the sponsorship she requires but would look for other ways to help her.
“I am happy that Zoe will carry on with the competition, this will help her with her environmental and charity projects that she is engaging in,” said her mother, Yvonne Maota.
One of the community projects young Zoe is currently involved in is the New Jerusalem Children’s Home, where she plays the violin for the children, reads storybooks and interacts with them. She will also be starting her very own project on autism awareness in the near future.
The initiative also assisted Miss Commonwealth SA Teen first princess, Palesa Bhebe-Zee for a similar drive after Midrand Reporter published her story last year.
