ATM bombing in Blue Hills

MIDRAND – Midrand police are investigating an ATM bombing and theft in Blue Hills.

Midrand police are investigating an ATM bombing and theft that took place at a service station, at the corner of the R55 and Summit Road in the early hours of 12 March, in Blue Hills, Midrand.

“Allegedly three suspects drove into the service station pretending to be in need of petrol, but as the petrol attendant came closer to their grey Hyundai i20 two of the suspects pulled out pistols and the other carried a rifle,” said Midrand police spokesperson Matome Tlamela.

“They ordered the cashier and supervisor to open the till and then kept them hostage in the kitchen as they bombed the drop-safe, but no one was injured.”

About R700 was taken from the till but the police said it’s not yet known whether any money was taken from the drop-safe.

“There were seven suspects in total during the robbery and investigations are underway and the available footage will assist in bringing the suspects to book.”

Details: Midrand Police Station 011 347 1600/26.
