All learners have been placed in schools – Gauteng Education Department

MIDRAND – A total of 321 910 children were placed accordingly.

All dust has settled with schools’ admission as Gauteng Department of Education confirms that all learners have been placed in schools.

Spokesperson for the department, Steve Mabona said that all learners who applied for space in Grade 1 and 8 for this year were allocated schools. A total of 321 910 children were placed accordingly. “We would like to thank parents for the cooperation and our employees for a sterling performance.”

Chaos erupted as schools opened in the province with the department receiving more late applications and many other children had not yet been accepted in schools.

Although the department had introduced an online application system to ease the long queues in schools, many parents who did not make use of the new system still queued at various schools for admission.

By the first week of February, a number of 3 366 children had not yet been placed in schools. Mabona advised parents to apply on time. ” We wish to advise parents to apply early for the 2019 academic year. We will announce the date in due course.”
