Officers of the Johannesburg flying squad noticed a suspicious silver-grey BMW near the corner of R55 and Maxwell Drive in Midrand on 7 March.
The vehicle sped off and the officers gave chase.
“The suspects’ vehicle then collided with another vehicle [Mini Cooper] and the four suspects jumped out of the BMW and made an attempt to flee,” said the Midrand police’s Sergeant Matome Tlamela. Three suspects were caught and arrested on the scene while the fourth suspect managed to escape.
“Two firearms were also found on the scene, a 9mm Girsan pistol and BXP [machine gun]. The serial numbers were filed off.”
The vehicle was found out to be hijacked.
“The driver of the Mini Cooper was taken to Waterfall Hospital with minor injuries and the vehicle was declared a write-off.”
