18 arrested for drug dealing and possession in Ivory Park

MIDRAND – Suspects were arrested after meetings with the police and the community.

 

The Ivory Park police crime prevention team and sector policing members arrested 18 suspects on 13 February for being in possession and dealing with drugs including dagga and nyaope.

This follows after police embarked on one of its anti-drug operations.

According to the spokesperson for Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the station commander of Ivory Park Police Station, Brigadier David Ngcobo engaged in meetings with community members to address identified drug hotspots.

“The communities have been complaining during meetings, which are being led by the station commander, about the widespread use of drugs in their areas. Ngcobo and his team have promised to deal decisively with these issues,” said Matimulane.

The arrest of the 18 suspects form part of the ongoing efforts by the Ivory Park police to deal with the drug scourge in the area.

Ngcobo said, “We are going to deal with users and dealers alike. We are glad that the community is responding to our calls to come forward with information regarding drugs, hence the reason we were able to arrest such a number of suspects in one day. More disruptive operations are planned going forward.”
