Fidelity ADT talks about their latest tech improvements in Midrand

MIDRAND – Fidelity ADT held a roundtable to talk about their latest technological improvements to assist in the security industry.

Fidelity ADT held a roundtable discussion on 21 February in Midrand to talk about their latest technological improvements to assist in the security industry.

A total of 92 incidents have been reported over the last three months from December last year.

“All crime trends are different from the police’s crime statistics because Fidelity’s trends are only based on their clients’ experiences as well as crimes in which an item was taken,” said the national subscriber sales manager at Fidelity ADT, Rob Dale.

The crime trends include all reported incidents including theft, attempted housebreaking, attempted robbery, common theft and medical emergencies. It does not include false alarms.

Midrand major serious crime trends in the past three months according to ADT include:

  • Housebreaking and theft: 50 incidents
  • Armed robbery: 17 incidents
  • Hijacking: 4 incidents

Robberies mainly occur from Thursday to Sunday between midnight and 6am, but besides firearms, other weapons being used include garden picks, shovels and screwdrivers.

Housebreaking and theft are reported throughout the week and not always accurate as the incident may only be reported when it is detected later in the day. Hijackings are usually prevalent between Thursday to Saturday, usually at peak times between 6am to 9am when residents are leaving for home or school and again between 4pm to 8am when they are returning home.

Fidelity has 13 accredited training centres for new incomers as well as for quarterly renewal training for permanently employed employees. All safety vehicles have safety measures such as bulletproof windows among others.

The security company has implemented new digital security systems such as FindU and SecureConnect which allows the user to be updated about the movement in their home while using their phone.

Stuart Clarkson, managing executive for Fidelity ADT, said over the last five years there have been significant changes in CCTV technology which have had an effect on pricing.

“Although the pricing has not necessarily come down significantly, you can now get much more advanced systems for the price of an entry-level system.

“Traditionally, CCTV was seen as a big business security measure. This has changed dramatically over the last few years and we are seeing more small business and residential clients using CCTV cameras, remote surveillance, and other perimeter security systems such as infrared sensors.”
