Joint safety awareness campaign at Pearson Institute

MIDRAND – Midrand social crime prevention and the Gauteng Department of Community Safety visited Pearson Institute of Higher Education.

Midrand social crime prevention and the Gauteng Department of Community Safety visited the Pearson Institute of Higher Education on 8 February for a safety talk.

The talk is a part of the safety awareness campaign run by the police.

The stakeholders met up with the students for an interactive discussion whereby the students were granted an opportunity to voice their grievances relating to various forms of robberies happening in the area and were also given a platform to raise suggestions on how best to curb crime

“The stakeholders advised students to structure a forum at residential areas, which will work with the community safety department and the police in planning, plus implementing safety initiatives,” said Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

“Students have shown some positivity towards the campaign and support in working with the stakeholders. There will be ongoing meetings with the students.”

The police have encouraged the students to report a crime as soon as possible, as well as refrain from taking videos of a crime instead of calling the police for assistance immediately.

“All people present were given the sector number (071 675 6109) in case of emergencies.”

Details: Midrand Police Station 011 347 1600/26.
