A story to tug at the heart strings

MIDRAND – Ayanda can now practice her violin whenever she wants.

A Good Samaritan who wished to remain anonymous made Ayanda Mbatha‘s dream of owning her own violin come true on 10 February when she donated the instrument to her.

Mbatha’s inspirational story was published in the Midrand Reporter three months ago in which she spoke of her passion for music and playing the violin. The 22-year-old Ivory Park born and bred musician is a cashier by profession and started playing violin at the age of 14 at Eqinisweni Secondary School where she still goes to practise.

She said she could not believe her ears when a woman told her she would like to donate her violin to her. “It as a call that gave me hope and made me see the light in my life,” she said.

“I am so grateful to the donor. I thank God for people like her and for Midrand Reporter for publishing my story.”

Mbatha said owning her own violin would enable her to practise anytime and grow in her music career. She added that she was inspired to play the violin after listening to To Love You More by Celine Dion featuring violinist Taro Hakase.

One of the highlights of her career was participating in the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz camp festival in 2012.

One of her goals is to become part of an orchestra.
