Netball club gives back to the community

MIDRAND – Mbokodo Dynamite Netball donated schools bags, netball bibs and kit to some learners in need at Nokuphila Primary School.

Midrand-based Mbokodo Dynamite Netball donated schools bags, netball bibs and kit to some children in need at Nokuphila Primary School in President Park on 6 February.

The team is made up of the African National Congress Women’s League members based in Midrand.

Founder of the team Duduzile Bhembe said, “We aim to foster active community participation and support through the club’s affiliation with individuals, local businesses and other organisations.

“We do not have our own facilities and Christ Church in Noordwyk has been instrumental in helping our team, and as such, we thought we should, in turn, give back to our community.

“We partnered with the Gauteng Department of Sports, ANC secretary of Ward 112, Lilliesleaf Farm comrade George Mahlangu and the Midrand Local Economic Empowerment, of whom each made a valuable contribution.”

Bhembe has announced that Gidela Holdings will be sponsoring the club as of 1 March until 28 February next year.

The founder said the team is very passionate about community service, community development, as well as sport’s development and has therefore planned to host a sports day in May as well as their annual tournament in September.

“We urge parents around Midrand to contact us if they have young girls from the age of nine that love the sport and would like to join the team.”

The learners and staff of Nokuphila Primary School were delighted. Principal Gill van den Top said, “Nokuphila School is a donor-based school for vulnerable children and our vision is to provide quality Christian education for impoverished children of the Tembisa/ Ivory Park area. Our aim is to bring hope to children who might otherwise have none.”

She highlighted that providing for all the children’s educational needs in the current financial climate is difficult.

“Included in our school programme are netball, soccer, cricket, volleyball and tennis, therefore the donations of sporting bibs and dresses was greatly appreciated.

“In 2016 the Golden Orphan Trust built four multipurpose courts for us but only children with takkies are able to use the facilities and so if there are any donors who would be willing to supply us with takkies, new or old, we would be most grateful.

“Donations may be marked Nokuphila Primary School but dropped off at Christ Church Midrand or Nokuphila Primary School or alternatively, the school can be contacted for more information.”
