- A 36-year-old woman was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by the Johannesburg Specialised Crimes Court. She was found guilty of fraud. The court found that she had defrauded her employer of just over R6 million.
- An amateur house robber was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
- The alleged killer of prominent Alexandra businessman, Mbopha Mashigo abandoned his bail application in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
- The Randburg Magistrates’ Court postponed a drug possession case against a 20-year-old man for further investigations. The 20-year-old Cosmo City resident is accused of drug possession. He was arrested by police during a routine patrol at the Randburg taxi rank. The case has been remanded to 6 March.
- A 24-year-old woman appeared briefly in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for theft. It is alleged that the accused was caught shoplifting at a store in Cresta Shopping Centre.
The accused, a mother of two children, asked the court to give her time to appoint legal representation. She told the court that she doesn’t want to use the services of Legal Aid and said she will appoint her own legal representative. The case has been remanded in order to allow the accused to find an attorney.
