Elderly woman allegedly strangled to death, Ivory Park police investigate

MIDRAND – An 88-year-old woman was found dead near Tswelopele Ext eight in Ivory Park.

 

An elderly woman (88) was found dead near Tswelopele Ext 8 on 10 February in Ivory Park. but its suspected that women was allegedly murdered on 9 February.

Ivory Park Police Station Commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo said, “It is suspected that the woman was murdered. I am deeply disturbed by the senseless murder of an elderly woman.”

“Late on Friday the elderly woman’s family became increasingly worried when she failed to arrive home at her usual time,” said spokesperson for the station, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

The search commenced early that evening which resulted in her belongings being found.

Her family continued the search the following day and was met with the harsh reality that she has died when they came across her lifeless body which showed signs that she might have been strangled to death.

Police experts were quickly called to the scene to gather evidence.

The brigadier is calling on anyone with information regarding the murder to come forward.

Thus far, a case of murder has been opened at the police station and investigations are underway.

Ngcobo said, “All law-abiding residents must condemn this cowardly act and work with the police to ensure that the perpetrator faces the full might of the law. “

He said the elderly, as well as women and children, remain vulnerable to many forms of violence and the only way to put this scourge under control is through vigilance.
