Land invaders back again near Klipfontein View

MIDRAND – About 3 000 people arrived in various forms of transport on 4 February and allocated stands for themselves on the land.

The group of people that invaded land near Klipfontein View on 4 February were back again in the area on 9 February causing traffic congestion on Allandale Road.

The group apparently consists of people from Tembisa, Ivory Park, Alexandra and Klipfontein and invaded the piece of land belonging to Zendai Property Development. The land is earmarked for development.

About 3 000 people arrived in various forms of transport on 4 February and allocated stands for themselves on the land. Zendai Property Development claimed that they had been granted a court interdict against them on 5 February from the Gauteng High Court.

However, Metro police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane said, “We have not received anything from the property owner for us to act.”

Ward 32 councillor Bongani Nkomo said he had held a meeting on 9 February with another group who claimed that the land was donated to them by the former owner. However, this group was not the same one that had invaded the land.

“We concluded that they must provide proof as they claim that the land was donated to the community,” he said.

“They have not done so and we have to meet with them again.”
