Bettering a child’s futre

MIDRAND – Lanto Montessori International Schools hosted the first Early Reading Mastery workshop.

Lanto Montessori International Schools hosted the first Early Reading Mastery workshop on Saturday 27 January.

It was presented by Randall Klein, who has taught in multi-aged early childhood classrooms for 16 years and is the co-author of Learning to Read is Child’s Play for The Early Reading Company in Chicago.

The training was attended by teachers from Orange Babies Montessori Preschool, Lanto Montessori International Primary School, Milton Park Combined School and New Jerusalem Children’s Home child and youth-care workers from Midrand.

In December last year, Progress in International Reading and Literacy Study, issued a report that showed 78 per cent of the pupils who took part in the survey are illiterate and cannot read and write.

Lanto Montessori International Schools immediately responded to the need to change the reading and writing challenges found. The schools which attended mostly work with children who are from disadvantaged communities.
