Original report:

Gauteng Premier, David Makhura has announced that Qedani Mahlangu has resigned as the Health MEC in the province and also as the member of the Gauteng Legislature.

According to Makhura, Mahlangu handed in her resignation last night (31 January). Her resignation comes as no surprise as the report into the probe of the deaths of psychiatric patients in the province had damning findings against her.

Makhura announced that the Deputy Health MEC, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa would be appointed as Health MEC and should be able to start her duties by next week. “She should be sworn in as a member of the legislature first, and as soon as that is done, will start her duties as MEC,” said Makhura.

MEC for Social Development, Nandi Mayathula Khoza is currently acting head of the health portfolio currently.
