Lovers warned to keep safe from criminals

MIDRAND – Criminals are targeting couples parked in isolated areas at night.

The Ivory Park police have warned lovers against parking vehicles in isolated areas after a couple was robbed at gunpoint.

According to the police, on 27 December a Soweto man visiting his girlfriend was accosted by three armed suspects where his car was parked on the street in Ivory Park Ext 2. They were bundled into the car and while he was fighting off the thugs, his girlfriend escaped. The attackers took his cellphone and wallet before he managed to jump out of the moving car. His car has not been seen since. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital for medical care.

In another incident, a man and a woman, who chose to identify themselves as friends, were hijacked by three armed men in an isolated spot in Clayville where they were parked in the night of 4 January. They were also forced into the car, had their valuables taken and were then dumped in Midrand.

“As much as we would love to cover every nook and cranny of our area, the reality is we can’t. So we call on anyone who parks their vehicle outside and after dark to desist as they are putting their lives in danger,” said the station commander of the Ivory Park Police Station, Brigadier Mbongeni Ngcobo.
