Kaalfontein man arrested for firearm possession

MIDRAND – Kaalfontein man (31) was arrested after he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Ivory Park police arrested a man for possession of a firearm and ammunition on 11 January in Kaalfontein, Midrand.

Police were able to make an arrest thanks to a tip-off and a detailed description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving.

The 31-year-old was found with 17 rounds of live ammunition at the newly opened shopping complex, Kaalfontein Corner.

“The suspect has been kept at the Ivory Park police cells and detained on charges of illegal possession of a firearm (serial numbers have been erased) and ammunition. The suspect is due to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Ivory Park police spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

Station Commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo has once again thanked the local community for the tip-off.

“Let’s not forget these are the two officers whose quick response in 2015 culminated in three lengthy convictions by the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court a month ago when three suspects were sentenced to a combined 125 years in jail. We again thank them for responding to their call of duty with such positive attitudes and outcomes,” said Ngcobo.
