Recovered stolen vehicles in Austin View

MIDRAND – Rabie Ridge police have arrested an Austin View scrap yard owner after stolen vehicles were recovered on his premises.

Rabie Ridge police arrested a man (40) in Austin View on 3 January for being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

Two on-duty police officers were patrolling the area when they recognised a white Volkswagen Golf, which had been reported stolen in Kempton Park, at the panel beaters and scrap yard.

As a result, the owner of the premises was immediately arrested as a suspect, and the police said the vehicle was allegedly brought to the area on 24 December last year.

This was one of many vehicles recovered on the premises. The Golf, as well as a Nissan, Ford Ranger and Ford Fiesta, had been hijacked during December last year.

Rabie Ridge police spokesperson Captain Matsobane Masela said the suspect will be appearing in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon.

The acting station commander of Rabie Ridge, Lieutenant Colonel Francios van der Merwe said, “The police will intensify operations and check up on the compliance of all scrap yards in the area.”

Details: Rabie Ridge Police Station 011 310 0410.
