Bowled over by Beaulieu’s matric results

Beaulieu College celebrated the success of their children when matric results were released on Wednesday, 3 January.

The class of 2017 was awarded 120 distinctions in total, with 91 per cent gaining entry into bachelor degree study, 45 per cent of candidates received an A or B aggregate and one schoolgirl ranked in the top five per cent of IEB results.

Here is a look at Beaulieu’s top achievers:

• Jess Hunter was the school’s top achiever and was ranked within the top 5 per cent in the IEB. She achieved eight distinctions in Afrikaans first additional language, English home language, life orientation, mathematics, physical sciences, accounting, life sciences, advanced programme mathematics. Hunter has decided that she wants to become a brain surgeon and will be studying Medicine at the University of the Witwaterstrand.

• Nikola Ludick achieved seven distinctions in accounting, Afrikaans first additional language, English home language, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and physical sciences.

• Khanya Mamba achieved seven distinctions as well in accounting, Afrikaans first additional language, English home language, history, life orientation, life sciences and mathematics. Mamba will be completing a Bachelor of Business Science in finance and accounting at UCT starting in 2018. She has received a full scholarship from the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation to finance her studies – a fellowship awarded to approximately 100 matric students in South Africa. Not only is this a full scholarship, but it also includes a Mentorship Programme which connects recipients with financial industry leaders who are the best in the field of commerce.

• Yashthur Kesarparshad received seven distinctions in the following subjects: accounting, Afrikaans first additional language, English home language, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and physical sciences. He is going to study Actuarial Science at the University of Pretoria.
