#ICYMI: Security officer saves the day in Kyalami

KYALAMI – A man attempting to rob a shop with a knife is recovering in hospital after being shot.

A TRSS Reaction security company response officer halted a shop robbery when a suspect allegedly tried to rob a shop owner at knifepoint in Kyalami on 11 December.

Response officer Moses Ramatlhako was on duty when he heard the owner of a supermarket in Barbeque Downs shout for help. “When I arrived, I found a man manhandling and pointing a knife at the owner of the shop demanding money,” Ramatlhako said.

He alleged that he ordered the man to put down his knife, but instead the suspect turned to him and allegedly tried to attack him. “There was a scuffle and eventually I reached for my gun and shot one bullet.”

Spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Warrant Officer Mmakgomo Semono confirmed the incident and said the suspect sustained a bullet wound in the stomach and was taken to Tembisa Hospital.

A suspect uses this knife to allegedly attempt to rob a shop.

Semono said, “The suspect is currently under police guard and will be charged with attempted business robbery.”
