Phomolong men reminded to honour their responsibilities

MIDRAND – Medsa held a gathering to educate men against the abuse of alcohol.

Men For Development in South Africa (Medsa) as well as the Gauteng Departments of Social Development and Community Safety, along with other non-profit organisations held a gathering at Phomolong on 25 November.

The gathering was held at Mahlangu Place, a well-known tavern. The aim of the meeting was to educate men and encourage them to honour their responsibilities as fathers and husbands by not spending all their money on alcohol.

This event was held in support of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.
Rabie Ridge police supported the event and the spokesperson of the local police station, Captain Mofana Matsobane Masela said, “We support the event because as police officers it is our governmental mandate to prevent domestic violence and curb the abuse of women, children and all those that are vulnerable in the community.

“A lot of assault and murder cases are spearheaded by the abuse of alcohol, but in some cases, women are not the victims but the perpetrators of violence.”

Many people who attended the gathering suggested that these meetings should take place more frequently so that more people become aware of it.
