Be vigilant, says Midrand police

MIDRAND – Midrand police are warning residents to become more vigilant during the festive season.

Midrand police have urged the community to be alert of robberies and hijackings in Midrand especially during the festive season.

“I am advising residents to be vigilant when walking to their vehicles after shopping, to ensure that all the windows are closed and all valuables placed out of sight and preferably in the boot,” said Sergeant Matome Tlamela of Midrand Police Station.

“Robberies and hijackings have been on the rise these past weeks and are expected to become worse during the festive season.”

Police officers are seeking community assistance in the fight against crime.

Due to the rise in certain crimes, police have warned community members to stop reporting false cases as it steals state time and resources, which could have been utilised in other cases.

“A 30-year-old man was arrested for perjury after falsely reporting a hijacking case of his vehicle, which never happened.”

Details: Midrand Police Station 011 347 1600/26.
