The City of Johannesburg’s Public Safety stakeholder relations management conducted safety awareness campaigns on 11 November.

Johannesburg Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the safety awareness campaign consisted of representatives from Metro police community outreach; Emergency Management Services public information and education; and Metro police internal affairs, licensing and prosecutions as well as disaster management.

“The campaigns were held at Mall of the South and at Kyalami Corner, where motorists were educated on why it was necessary not to be reckless, not to drink and drive, not to speed and to ensure that vehicles should always be fully roadworthy,” Minnaar explained.

The public was made aware of safety tips at home, and at work. Information was also given on fire and water safety and details about vehicle licensing, renewal of license cards and professional driving permits were explained and the various time frames relating to these categories.

Ahead of the festive season, the City conducts safety awareness campaigns.
