Important advice for this year’s matrics to note

BRAAMFONTEIN – Matrics are encouraged to do thorough research in terms of choosing the right study programme within the right institution,ahead of completing their their matric year.

It’s once again that time of year where matrics sit down for what is arguably the biggest test of their high school careers – final examinations.

Matrics’ stress is heightened by them having to assess which university or college they should pursue further studies within, according to Carol Crosley, registrar at the Wits University.

Crosley said systems are, however, in place to assist students in making informed decisions in terms of which institution(s) to consider. “Obviously we encourage prospective students to do their own research, especially now that all institutions have active websites,” Crosley said.

“Many universities also have information and hold open days during the course of the year, but for matrics right now, I would refer them to our university career planner to assist them in making the correct [study] choices. E-services offered by the university is precisely there to help prospective students with not only choosing the right university, but choosing the right course.”
