A shoot-out broke out on 31 October between four suspects and police officers at Kyalami Corner in Midrand.
One suspect was shot, another arrested and two police officers were wounded during the incident.
According to Gauteng Provincial police, the police officers said two officers were allegedly hijacked and kidnapped in Bramley by four armed men.
“Police gave chase with numerous vehicles and a chopper which put pressure on the suspects who drove to Crowthorne and abandoned the car. One officer was found shot in the neck,” said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, the spokesperson for Gauteng Provincial police.
“After the suspects abandoned the car, they attempted fleeing on foot but realised that the police were hot on their heels and resorted to hijacking another vehicle and then drove to Kyalami Corner where a shoot-out ensued between the suspects and the police,” said Dlamini.
Another police officer was allegedly shot in the hand during the shootout. Both officers are in a stable condition and are currently recovering in hospital.
The police were successful in the shoot-out having managed to arrest one suspect and another was shot and critically injured but recovering in hospital.
Two suspects managed to flee the scene and a manhunt has been launched for the two remaining suspects.
“The arrested suspect will be charged for attempted murder, assault, hijacking and kidnapping.”
Three firearms were recovered on the scene – one belonging to the kidnapped officer.
Police are hopeful that the detained suspect will assist in making the investigation more fruitful.
Danny Maduray, the chief executive officer at Ria Sebetsa Security Services, said his team assisted in the search for the abandoned and injured officer and has thanked his team for a job well done.
