Mayor cleans Midrand

MIDRAND – Leadership of the City of Joburg tackles the streets of Midrand.

Despite a cold and rainy day, Midrand residents in Vorna Valley, Ward 132 and other areas came out to assist in cleaning up the areas as part of the City of Joburg’s A Re Sebetseng clean-up initiative.

Ward 112 was proud to host the leadership of the City of Joburg – the Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba, speaker Vasco da Gama, chief whip Dr Kevin Wax and representatives from Miss Earth South Africa as part of our clean-up initiative on New and Lever roads.

Ward 112 councillor Madeleine Hicklin said, “I have never met a more hardworking, committed and community-oriented group of leaders than our EM, Herman Mashaba, and his team. It has never been a case of ‘the residents cleaning and the leadership watching’. We all got involved, we all picked up litter, swept the streets, scooped up the sand and filled bags of rubbish. We had two teams in action on Saturday – one cleaning the streets while a second team took down over 400 illegal posters off robots, lamp posts and street poles.

“Through this A Re Sebetseng project, our mayor is determined to make Joburg the most amazing city in Gauteng – and every councillor is determined to back him and make that a reality.

“I want to restore Midrand to its rightful place of being the jewel in Gauteng’s crown and so many of the residents in Ward 112 have bought into that vision. It’s not a party-political initiative, it’s an inclusive initiative involving everyone who wants to be involved. Residents from all political parties put their personal agendas aside to work together to clean up our suburbs.

“But, as residents, we could never do it alone. I would really like to pay tribute to Abigail Ndlovu, regional director of Region A; Nompumelelo Mthethwa and Jeff Mahlangu of PikitUp for their commitment to ubuntu and service with pride in Region A. I would also like to thank the JMPD for keeping us safe and the incredible team of Ward 112 residents who braved the weather to help us clean the streets.

“We are because of you! Thank you so much for making Midrand a better place to live, work and play in!”
