MIDRAND – Mrs SA finalist has partnered with Mpact to ensure that recyclable paper does not go to waste.

Building Blocks Preparatory School received a special visit from Mpact Recycling and one of the Mrs South Africa finalists on 20 October.

Mpact Recycling is one of the leading paper recyclers in South Africa and has partnered with the Mrs South Africa pageant, a woman empowerment programme, for the third consecutive year.

Mpact was represented by Ronnie Recycler, the company’s mascot, and procurement officer Doreen Manyatelo, and Bayanda Gumede, a Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa finalist.

Through the partnership with Mpact Recycling, the top 25 Mrs South Africa finalists are required to visit their selected schools and communities to create recycling awareness and educate their communities on the importance of preserving the environment.

“The Ronnie Recycler programme allows schools and communities to raise funds, as the schools and communities get paid for their recyclables, while teaching environmental awareness, responsibility and sustainability,” said Gumede.

The company encourages all community members and businesses to play their part in saving the environment by donating all their unwanted paper, magazines, newspapers and cartons, among other things.

Gumede highlighted the following benefits of recycling:

  • Environmental health
  • It diverts recyclable paper away from landfills
  • Reduces the reliance on virgin fibre
  • Reduces greenhouse gas emissions and prevents the incineration of recyclable paper.
