Couple tied with shoelaces and robbed

MIDRAND – Police on the lookout for suspects involved in a housebreaking after one person was arrested with the stolen vehicle.

An Ivory Park couple and their seven-year-old daughter have been left traumatised after they were robbed at gunpoint by three men at their home in Ivory Park’s Ext 2 on 19 October.

“The man was about to go out to buy takeaways when he was confronted by the three armed suspects. He was ordered back into their shack where they were tied up with shoelaces, had their two cellphones, money and the car robbed. The suspects fled the scene,” said Ivory Park police spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

Station commander of the Ivory Park police, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has expressed shock for the trauma caused to the family and has thanked a team from a car tracking company, which the owner had subscribed to, for the recovery of the vehicle and arrest.

One man was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, which was recovered in Mamelodi in Pretoria following a high-speed chase, during which the driver lost control and had an accident.

“We believe the arrest of this suspect will help us immensely in further investigations. His arrest for being in possession of this vehicle is a start as we will still have to investigate if he was involved in the robbery or any other crimes,” said Ngcobo.
