Celebrating productivity in SA

Treating productivity as an enabling tool for transforming our economic growth and the creation of jobs.

The government entity tasked with promoting productivity and employment growth in South Africa met in Midrand recently to host its AGM as well as to launch Productivity Month during October 2017.

During the month, the importance of productivity in enhancing economic growth is brought to the fore through a series of productivity workshops and seminars, countrywide.

The objective of Productivity Month is primarily the promotion of productivity to every South African and treating productivity as an enabling tool for transforming our economic growth and the creation of jobs.

Productivity Month initially started as a week of activities whereby efforts around creating awareness on productivity and competitiveness were intensified.

Over a decade later the activities have developed into a fully-fledged Productivity Month that has proved to be a landmark annual campaign. The awareness campaign was incepted by the then Minister of Labour, Membathisi Mdladlana and endorsed by more than 20 major corporations.

The executive manager of marketing and communication, Rebecca Phalatse said, “Productivity SA will this year once again embark on an intensive awareness drive during the month of October.”

Phalatse said the success of previous awareness campaigns has galvanized the institution into ensuring that maximal impact is made during this month.

She said whilst the organisation seeks to heighten awareness around productivity in the county and also highlight programmes in place to enhance and sustain productivity in South Africa throughout the year, Productivity Month is like a fair commemorating these efforts.

In addition, the National Productivity Awards avails a platform for networking with business leaders and it is an opportune moment for industry captains and thought-leaders to espouse and share knowledge.

The highlight of the month is the National Productivity Awards. The rationale behind this is to showcase, share ideas, methods and perspectives on how companies can improve productivity.

The National Productivity Awards will be held at the Gallagher Convention Centre on 20 October 2017.
