Midrand youth in renewable energy

MIDRAND – Zama Zamisa believes it is time for the community to invest in alternative sources of energy.

Longtime Midrand resident, Zama Zamisa (22) has ventured into the energy space with his own company called Global Renewable Energy Solutions (Gres), founded in 2015.

Zamisa believes it is time for the community to invest in alternative sources of energy, which is why he had ventured into the renewable energy sector with the assistance of his mentor, Timothy Webb.

“Our region has great potential to invest in renewable energy projects that might save millions of rand, empower the community and reduce dependence on one power utility supplier.

According to Zamisa, there are multiple benefits for the region, including:

  • Cheaper electricity as an alternative
  • Increase the profitability of local Smmes
  • Skills development transfer has opened up for unemployed youth which then can be used for job creation

“I’ve had the opportunity to work together with residents and municipalities that are now realising the positive impact of renewable energy projects. Over the past year, I had the opportunity to work in Groblershoop, Northern Cape with the local municipality in developing renewable energy projects that empower the municipality through savings, increased profitability of local businesses, improved standards of living/quality of life and facilitate skills transfer to the youth”.

Zamisa is keen in engaging local businesses and the Region A councillors to facilitate similar developments in our community that will empower and create sustainable opportunities for residents.
