Children’s Flight takes 400 children to the sky at Grand Central Airport
MIDRAND – Grand Central Airport flew 400 children thanks to Children's Flight's annual charity event inspiring children to dream.
Children’s Flight took 400 children from 17 different organisations on a flight experience at Grand Central Airport in Midrand on 1 September.
The initiative is the brainchild of the pilot, Felix Gosher and is aimed at encouraging, developing and inspiring children to continue dreaming.
Michael Ferguson is the songwriter of Paper Plane, which is a theme song for Children’s Flight. Ferguson said he and Gosher decided to use music and aviation as a beacon of hope and let children know that it’s okay to dream.
“In our first year in 2016 we had 130 children and this year the initiative has attracted 400 children of different races, disabilities and ages but focused on the foundation phase from the age of three.”
“These children are experiencing something they might have never experienced anytime soon and received all this, free of charge, along with a fun day because the aim is to teach them at a young age that nothing is unreachable,” said Ferguson.
Furthermore, Ferguson highlighted that some of the children now feel inspired to be pilots, allowing them to dream about anything and know that they can reach it.
Added to the flight experience, the children were given T-shirts and games, face-paintings, pictures, lunch and drinks. The initiative is an annual event and Ferguson said he hopes that it will get bigger and bigger.
