The South African Intruder Detection Services Association (Saidsa) hosted the 12th annual Reaction Man Competition on 18 August. Security companies from all over South Africa entered the elite event to fight it out for the title of Best Reaction Officer 2017.

The events consisted of an obstacle course, handgun shooting exercises at the Swat shooting range, advanced driving on the Zwartkops skid pan and a 4×4 off-road course.

The reaction officers were privileged to drive and test the latest Toyota 4×4 Hilux and Etios. Toyota and Saidsa ensured that the reaction officers were treated like heroes.

National key accounts manager, Charmaine Smith, thanked the participating officers for their dedication in securing the communities they work in and for the selfless act of putting themselves in harm’s way when on duty. “They patrol the streets while most of us are fast asleep, leaving their families at home to look after yours,” she said.

TRSS’ Midrand reaction manager, Riaan Winkler and his senior operations manager, Tommy Graaff lead the Midrand security company to victory. They saw to it that the officers were fully equipped, trained and ready for the day’s events.

Eight members from TRSS’ reaction division were selected and two teams were entered into this prestigious event. The camaraderie amongst them was phenomenal as they chanted the TRSS war cry at the top of their voices. Their energy was contagious.

TRSS walked away with the best team spirit award for the third year in a row. “These officers are extremely proud of what they do for safety and security in Midrand and adjoining areas,” Smith said.
