Fortune Msimang (29) was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Alex Magistrates’ Court on 27 August for house robbery. Msimang and three other armed accomplices entered a Kyalami residence on 15 October last year.
They tied up the couple in the kitchen while they stole four watches, three laptops, jewellery and a flat screen television. They also demanded an unknown amount of money.
Midrand police were able to make an arrest in November last year when one of the fingerprints recovered from the house robbery matched those of man who had recently been arrested in Joburg for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Msimang refused to disclose the identity of the other suspects. The police are still on the hunt for the other suspects.
Detective Sergeant Mgoaka Mateta of Midrand Police Station said, “I am pleased that we were able to find at least one of the people responsible for the robbery, but still remain hopeful that the other three will in time also be found.”
The arresting officers were Constable Phillipos Madisha and Warrant Officer Abel Mahlare.
Spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Mmakgomo Semono said he was happy with the conviction. “The station is working hard to stop crime and ensure justice for victims.”
