ICYMI: Principal in the dock for alleged rape

JOBURG – The Johannesburg Magistrates' Court has denied bail to a school principal accused of raping two school pupils.

A school principal who is accused of raping two schoolchildren has appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

The case has been postponed to 31 August, in order to allow the investigating officer time to verify the validity of the accused’s passport. The accused was denied bail and has been in custody since his arrest.

The 53-year-old man is accused of raping the two teenagers who were pupils at his school.

According to Captain Xoli Mbele of the Johannesburg Central Police, one of the victims, who is 15 years old, was apparently living with the principal in October last year when the alleged rape took place.

Mbele confirmed that the principal will be charged with two counts of rape, as another child also came forward and reported that the same principal allegedly raped her as well.
