Women’s League treated Midrand police female officers to lunch

MIDRAND – African National Congress Women's League Ward 132 branch treats Midrand Police Station female officers to a lunch for Women's Month celebrations.

The African National Congress Women’s League Ward 132 branch treated the Midrand Police Station’s female officers on 19 August to a lunch as part of Women’s Month initiatives.

Lerato Myaka, the treasurer of the branch said they decided to spoil the officers as a thank you gesture because they left their families every day to protect other families and in the process risked their own safety.

Angeline Senna, the coordinator for the branch said it was important for women to support, protect and uplift each other especially during Women’s Month.

“The treat was a way of getting the women to talk about issues that affect them in their professions and society,” said Senna.

The officers said their main challenge being policewomen was that they were also mothers and wives and when they left home for work, there was no guarantee that they might return home because officers were killed in the line of duty sometimes.

They agreed that regardless of the dangers, they enjoyed their jobs because they loved protecting their community and fighting crime, not only for the community but also for their own families to be in a safe environment.

“The initiative was a success and this was one of many initiatives that we do to empower various women and organisations in our community,” said Myaka.
