A helping hand

MIDRAND – Midrand Afrikaanse Akademie spent the day at Midrand SPCA and showered the animals with donations.

Midrand Afrikaanse Akademie, based in Midrand, donated dog and cat food, toys, blankets and leashes to the Midrand SPCA on 4 August as part of their Mandela Day initiative.

Co-ordinator and teacher, Melodeika Du Toit said the school particularly identified the SPCA because they had seen many articles whereby the facility was seeking help.

The children spent most of the day playing with the animals and feeding them.

“It’s good for our pupils to get familiar with the concept of giving and charity work because we are grooming young people that will make a difference in other people’s lives as well as protect animals.

“Interacting with the animals was also a form of education in understanding animal requirements and behaviour,” said Du Toit. She encouraged other organisations to help out where they can.
