Midrand’s very own fashion designer, Thebeyapelo Phiri, draws his inspiration from young people and the local community.
“Yeye Clad means ‘Agree to be bold’ – that’s the slogan the brand lives by, giving people a purpose to embrace themselves,” Phiri said.
The fashion designer fuses African style with modern aesthetics in his clothing. “Even a person from across the world can adore and actually buy the brand while experiencing Africa.”
Phiri said his designs are a cross pollination of South African history and today’s context.
“My inspiration comes from seeing black success such Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Siya Beyile.
“We live in the 21st century, [a century] that is focused on evolving, so our approach is to give a new identity to African garments while breaking through international markets while still intact with my roots.”
