ICYMI: WATCH – Uber and meter taxi drivers scuffle at Mall of Africa

MIDRAND – Uber and meter taxi drivers captured on video fighting as police stand by and watch.

Violence broke out between Uber and meter taxi drivers on 30 July at the Mall of Africa.

Johann Fourie, general manager of the Mall of Africa said, “Management can confirm that an altercation took place between Uber taxi drivers and metered taxi drivers. While no one was injured and the matter has been resolved between the two parties, we are deeply concerned about the nature of the incident given ongoing tensions between both groups.

“The safety and security of tenants and customers are of paramount importance to us and we are working proactively with the police, Uber and the taxi associations to put measures in place to avoid a potential re-occurrence.”

There was a video of the altercation making the rounds on social media showing police officials standing by doing nothing as the fight between drivers proceeded.
