A 71-year-old woman fights for her stand in Ivory Park

MIDRAND – An Ivory Park woman alleges that her stand was stolen from her by her former tenant.

A 71-year-old woman has opened a case of fraud at the Ivory Park Police Station after she discovered that her signature was forged and her stand in Ivory Park Ext 2 was allegedly taken from her by a former tenant.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane said, “The 71-year-old woman said she was called to a meeting by a councillor and the ‘new owner’ who, the complainant was adamant, had allegedly forged her signature. The new occupant of the stand used to be the old woman’s tenant and the old woman is adamant that the person claiming ownership of her stand had [allegedly] had her signature forged and that she had never at any stage sold her stand.”

The complainant told the police that she only realised that her signature had been forged when she was provided with papers at the councillor’s office proving she had sold her house. She also said that the police stamp on the paperwork does not have the legible details on the commissioner of oath.

A case of fraud has been opened and the Ivory Park police are determined to get to the bottom of the matter. If it is found that fraud has been committed, the law will take its course.
