Ward councillor to approach MMC to resolve waste dump problem in Vorna Valley

MIDRAND – Councillor turns to MMC for solutions after squatters turn Vorna Valley into a dump.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe plans to approach the MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun for assistance in resolving the waste dump caused by squatters in Vorna Valley. Deppe said the matter had been reported to the Midrand Community Policing Forum and Metro police, however, little has been done to resolve the situation.

“There are squatters living in this area. It is disgusting and smells awful. I will need to involve the MMC in this matter. This is bylaw infringement and a health hazard,” said Deppe.

Waste continues to pile up in Vorna Valley.

“The communities that are not doing separation at source [for recycling] need to start taking control of their waste. If they need some pointers on how to go about it. We have some suburbs running programmes very successfully.”
