Two men shot in Kaalfontein robbery at local petrol station

MIDRAND – Two men were shot and injured during a robbery at a local petrol garage in Kaalfontein.

Ekurhuleni North police are investigating a case of robbery and two counts of attempted murder after two people were shot and wounded during a robbery at a local Engen garage in Kaalfontein, Midrand on 22 June.

The robbers tried to bomb the garage’s drop safe without success. They only got away with an unknown amount of cash from the tills. Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane said the Ekurhuleni North police are investigating the case.

“Three cashiers were at work at about 6am when a tall man, wearing a balaclava, armed with a crowbar and a firearm, walked in,” Matimulane explained. “He ordered the three cashiers to lie on the floor and they complied. Another suspect came in and at that time another employee was just coming out of the office. The employee was allegedly forced to open the tills and instructed to lie down afterwards. The robbers then allegedly attempted to open the store’s drop safe with a bomb.”
